Open Heavens 1 April 2022 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – There is Hope

TOPIC: There is Hope

MEMORISE: For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. – Ecclesiastes 9:4

READ: Job 14:7-9 (KJV)

7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

MESSAGE:

One of the major things I have come to learn in my decades of walking with Christ is that there is no hopeless situation with God. It does not matter how bad the circumstances are, my God can reverse the seemingly irreversible. In 2 Kings 4:1-7, the Bible tells us of a woman who was so poor and deep in debt that her creditors’ only hope of recovering their money was to sell her sons. However, in just one day, God turned her story around and she not only had enough to pay off her debt, she also had money to live on for the rest of her life. It doesn’t matter how poor you are now; I decree: God will prosper you, in Jesus’ name.

Your problem may be one of sickness. There is no one so sick that God cannot heal. I was in Ireland a few years ago when a Pastor brought a handkerchief to me to pray on. The lady he wanted to lay the handkerchief on was in the hospital and the doctors had said that she only had a 0.01% chance of surviving. I prayed on the handkerchief and the Pastor took it to her. My God then took the 0.01% chance of survival the doctor had mentioned and used it to give her a 100% healing. Beloved, it does not matter what report the doctors have given concerning you; as long as you can read this or listen to someone else read it to you, I decree that you are healed in Jesus’ name.

In the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we have witnessed several miraculous conceptions and childbirths. In some cases, the women were over sixty years old and some had been declared by medical doctors as unfit to conceive and deliver children. Sarah was 90 years old when she had Isaac. It doesn’t matter how old you are now, those who called you barren will soon be attending the naming ceremony of your children, in Jesus’ name.

God says in Jeremiah 32:27:

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”

The question is “Do you believe that He can do it?” James 1:5-7 says whoever comes to ask God for anything without having faith should not expect that he will receive answers to his prayers. A song writer once sang, “Don’t give up on God because He won’t give up on you”. There is hope that all things will turn around for your good if you keep your faith active and live according to God’s will.

ACTION POINT:

Do something today that will really show God that you believe He can turn your situation around for the better.

HYMN 12: My Faith Looks Up To Thee

1 My faith looks up to thee,
thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine.
Now hear me while I pray;
take all my guilt away;
O let me from this day
be wholly thine!

2 May thy rich grace impart
strength to my fainting heart;
my zeal inspire!
As thou hast died for me,
oh, may my love to thee
pure, warm, and changeless be,
a living fire!

3 While life’s dark maze I tread,
and griefs around me spread,
be thou my guide.
Bid darkness turn to day,
wipe sorrow’s tears away,
nor let me ever stray
from thee aside.

4 When ends life’s transient dream,
when death’s cold, sullen stream
shall o’er me roll,
blest Savior, then, in love,
fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above,
a ransomed soul!

MEMORISE: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. – Psalm 121:1

READ: Psalm 121:1-8 (KJV)

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 26-30

Hymn 8: I’m Pressing On The Upward Way

1. I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Chorus:
Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2. My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3. I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

4. I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till rest I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

TOPIC: How To Retain Your Dominion

MEMORISE: And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. – Matthew 10:22

READ: Philippians 3:10-15 (KJV)

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 23-25

MESSAGE:

One truth that we must embrace as we round off our discussion about dominion is that it can be lost if one is careless, arrogant, disobedient or lawless. A classic example of someone who had dominion but lost it was the first king of Israel – Saul, according to (1 Samuel 15:1-30). He was not only disobedient, but also unrepentant. He chose to enjoy popularity among the people but this eventually made him lose the desired popularity when God’s grace departed from him. To his face the women of Israel sang that “Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands” (1 Samuel 18:7). Dominion attracts fame and popularity; however, if care is not taken, these can make one lose his or her dominion and eventually be left with nothing, thus becoming a shadow of his or her past.

Dominion brings about comfort but comfort when mismanaged can cause one to lose his or her dominion, as in the case of David. The Bible says that at a time when kings were supposed to have gone to war, David stayed back to enjoy the pleasure of his palace. This was when he saw what he was not supposed to see, fell into a series of sins that brought a curse upon him and caused him to temporarily lose his dominion to his son Absalom. Thank God that he had a repentant heart and God mercifully restored his dominion to him (2 Samuel 11,15-18). The Bible says: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). This might have made David write Psalm 51 which reads:

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions” Psalms 51:1

2 Samuel 12:1-13 tells us of the tender mercies of God when David repented.

Beloved, let us be careful not to lose our dominion. To those who have lost their dominion, the good news is that God is ready to forgive if you would repent and trace your steps back to Him today.

There are people who never lost their dominion. Elisha was one of them (2 Kings 13:14-21). You will never lose your dominion, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me to be obedient to You at all times so that I will never lose the dominion You have given me, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMN 19: O Worship The King All-Glorious Above

1 O worship the King all-glorious above,
O gratefully sing his power and his love:
our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

2 O tell of his might and sing of his grace,
whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

3 Your bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

4 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
in you do we trust, nor find you to fail.
Your mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,
our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

5 O measureless Might, unchangeable Love,
whom angels delight to worship above!
Your ransomed creation, with glory ablaze,
in true adoration shall sing to your praise!

TOPIC: Proof Of Dominion II

MEMORISE: And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck. – Genesis 27:40

READ: Genesis 27:37-40 (KJV)

37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 20-22

MESSAGE:

We discussed fruitfulness as proof of dominion yesterday. Today we shall look at various means by which we can be fruitful and have dominion. Hard work is one of the major means of fruitfulness. The Bible says, “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want” (Proverbs 21:5). Laziness is not a Christian virtue. As a matter of fact, the Bible says “…this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

Diligence is so potent that it can be rightly said that nothing shall be impossible for the diligent. Dominion through diligence destroyed the yoke of Jacob on the neck of his careless brother, Esau. Even after he had lost his blessing to Jacob, Esau insisted that the father should give him the leftover of the blessings which his brother took from him.

On Jacob’s return journey to his father’s house, he was met with Esau who already had dominion. It is interesting to read that the man who got the blessing through crooked means was trembling before the one he had cheated of it.

And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. – Genesis 33:3-4

The wives and children of Jacob came in succession to greet and bow before Esau. When Jacob tried to bribe his way into having peace with his brother the second time, the brother said he did not need Jacob’s wealth. This is because he himself was already blessed to the extent that he had a personal army of four hundred men. (Genesis 33:1,8-11). Esau told Jacob he had enough; this was from a leftover blessing.

Diligence indeed leads to greatness, which in turn leads to dominion. Commit to being diligent in all you do (Ecclesiastes 9:10) and you will indeed have dominion.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please bless the work of my hands and let me have dominion through Your blessings, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 16: O God, Our Help In Ages Past

1. O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal home:

2. Under the shadow of your throne
your saints have dwelt secure;
sufficient is your arm alone,
and our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood,
or earth received its frame,
from everlasting you are God,
to endless years the same.

4. A thousand ages in your sight
are like an evening gone,
short as the watch that ends the night
before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
soon bears us all away;
we fly forgotten, as a dream
dies at the op’ning day.

6. O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
still be our guard while troubles last,
and our eternal home!

TOPIC: Proof Of Dominion I

MEMORISE: Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. – John 15:16

READ: John 15:1-8 (KJV)

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 18-19

MESSAGE:

How can we know that someone has dominion? To prove that you have dominion, you must have something to show for it. Kings are known in their domain by their possessions. In other words, productivity and fruitfulness are proof of dominion.

The story was told of two friends who asked a seer to foretell their future and one was told he would be king while the other was told he would die a pauper. The one who was told that he would become king went home rejoicing and stopped working from that day. Meanwhile, the other man who was told that he would die a pauper went into the jungle and began to cultivate a farm. Some years later, there was a terrible famine in the land and as people were scouting around for food, they stumbled upon the huge farmland of this determined young man. They begged him to give them large supplies of food so that the townspeople would not die of hunger. This man agreed to give them food that would last the period of famine, on one condition. The condition was that they would make him their king. The people agreed and he was made king. The proof of his dominion as the king was in his ability to feed the people, even in the midst of the famine.

In our memory verse today, our Lord Jesus Christ said that the proof of dominion is fruitfulness. He stated clearly that when we bear fruit and our fruit abide, God will give unto us whatsoever we ask for in His name (John 15:16). That is dominion!

This is a pointer to the fact that only an achiever could say he or she has dominion. You can only achieve if you have God as your Ally because the Bible says that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders build in vain (Psalm 127:1).

To truly have dominion, connect with the Almighty God today.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please cause me to be fruitful from now on and establish my dominion before the whole world, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Open Heavens 27 March 2022 Sunday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Role Of The Gem Called Mother

Click HERE for Previous Open Heaven Devotional

TOPIC: The Role Of The Gem Called Mother

MEMORISE: The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. – Proverbs 10:1

READ: 1 Kings 3:16-21 (KJV)

16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

17 And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

19 And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 15-17

MESSAGE:

Today is Mothers’ Day and I pray that, for every mother, your labour of love over your children will not go unrewarded in Jesus’ name. Mothers are very special people because of how passionate they are about their children. I have always said it: I am where I am today because of the grace of God and the prayers of my mother. The prayer she constantly used to say then was that many others would respond when I call on just one person. In other words, her prayer was that I would be so influential that everyone would want to answer when I call.

A mother that does her duties right will set her children on the path towards fulfilling God’s plans for their lives. In Matthew 20:20-21, the mother of James and John came to plead with Jesus that her children should be seated beside Him in heaven; it’s no wonder these two were among the three people closest to Jesus when He was on earth.

Mothers are pivotal to the fulfilment of the destinies of their children. It is however unfortunate that many mothers are so carried away by the things of this world that they forget their role in interceding for their children.

In our Bible reading today, one mother was sleeping so deeply that she killed her own baby. The other was also sleeping so deeply that her child was exchanged right under her nose without her knowledge. Thank God she awoke to fight back for her child. This tells us that if a mother is sleeping spiritually, she could kill her own children. If she is not prayerful and does not invest her time in raising them diligently, their destinies could be truncated right under her watch. When a mother would rather sleep than pray at night for her children, she is indirectly killing their destinies.

I pray that a generation of mothers would arise – a generation that would not take with levity the destinies of their children, a generation that would commit to ensuring that their children live to fulfil God’s plans for their lives.

Mothers, awake and prayerfully fight for the actualization of your children’s destinies.

KEY POINT:

Mothers are pivotal to the success or otherwise of their children.

HYMN 15: Now Thank We All Our God

1 Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mothers’ arms
has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

2 O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us,
to keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
of this world in the next.

3 All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son and Spirit blest,
who reign in highest heaven
the one eternal God,
whom heaven and earth adore;
for thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.
